30 years after winning Olympic Gold, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean are returning to perform their Bolero routine.
The skating legends won the Gold medal at the Winter Olympics in 1984, and now thirty years later will perform the breath-taking routine.
Torvill & Dean have been invited by the Mayors of Sarajevo to perform at the stadium where they won. The Olympic Hall Zetra was destroyed during the Bosnian War during 1992-95, but has since been rebuilt. The event will take place on 13 February. Torvill & Dean are also inviting a British team of junior and senior skaters, hoping to inspire a future generation of ice skaters. The chief executive of the National Ice Skating Association (NISA), Nick Sellwood, said, ‘We are honoured to be a part of this unique event celebrating the 30th anniversary of Torvill & Dean’s legendary Bolero routine in Sarajevo. It will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for our Junior skaters to perform in a historic event on the very spot where the last UK Winter Olympic figure skating gold medal was won in 1984.’
Torvill & Dean’s Olympic win had an television audience of 24 million viewers and an hour long documentary: Torvill & Dean: The Perfect Day features the pair recalling the events leading up to their gold winning performance. It airs on BBC2 at 9pm on 7 February.
