Yesterday, So So Gay reported on growing concern for the safety and wellbeing of Nikolai Alekseev, a prominent Russian LGBT rights activist, following a series of bizarre posts on his Facebook profile.
Suspicions arose that Alekseev has either been detained following his appearance before a committee to answer libel charges or that his state of mind is fragile. Alekseev, a lawyer by profession, is seen as the public face of the struggle for LGBT equality in Russia and has suffered harassment, beatings and arrest for his unswerving commitment.
As of today, Alekseev's Facebook profile is not visible, meaning that it has either been deactivated or removed entirely. This only adds to an increasingly murky picture and is unlikely to reassure his friends, many of whom are speculating that Alekseev is, indeed, in custody and that he is no longer in control of his profile.
So So Gay will bring you further updates as news emerges.
