‘Sex and the City’ prequel ‘The Carrie Diaries’ to air in the US on 14 January

Sex and the City was an amazing TV hit that managed to stand the test of time for six seasons and spawn two movies before Carrie Bradshaw and Co hung up their manolos in 2010. There were many people who argued its end was about time; that the cast had grown up, and our girls should be allowed to finally fade gracefully into the halls of television history. However, for every naysayer there were just as many fans who were crying out for more.

Fans of the fab four did not have far to look when Candace Bushnell, the writer of the original Sex and the City book, put out the prequel in the form of The Carrie Diaries, a terrific page turner for a younger audience, which visited the fashionista writer to-be as she made her first steps towards being the one-and-only Carrie Bradshaw. It soon became clear that it would only be a matter of time before the books hit the small screen and the, soon to be hit, show will be airing on US TV channel NBC on 14 January.

The show will take the action back to the mid-1980′s and, much like the book, focus on the teenage Bradshaw; an intriguing premise which sounds like a unique cross between hit shows Sex and the City and Gossip Girl. As much as we at So So Gay are intrigued by the prospect of meeting a younger Bradshaw, the only worry is whether the show can come anywhere close to touching the stratospheric heights of its predecessor. However, thanks to this trailer, and in no small part the appearance of Freema Agyeman (Martha Jones of Doctor Who fame), we’ve decided to be cautiously optimistic.

So far, a UK air date has yet to be announced, but it seems to be only a matter of time before The Carrie Diaries makes the jump and becomes a true transcontinental hit. Whenever that is, we at So So Gay will be ready and waiting with the popcorn, the wine and two or three of our best friends to welcome Carrie back with open arms.
