Jeremy Irons: Same-sex marriage will allow fathers to marry sons to avoid inheritance tax

Jeremy Irons has expressed doubts over plans to allow same-sex marriage, worrying it could lead to fathers marrying their sons to avoid inheritance tax

Lolita star Jeremy Irons has expressed doubts over plans to allow same-sex marriage, worrying it could lead to fathers marrying their sons to avoid inheritance tax.

Whether he’s ever worried about women marrying their sons for the same reason is not explained.

Irons was speaking with Huffington Post when he noted that  ‘it’s not incest between men’ because ‘incest is there to protect us from inbreeding, but men don’t breed.’

‘I worry that it means somehow we debase, or we change, what marriage is. I just worry about that.’

Irons has been married twice, and starred with both of his sons in films. Sam (pictured left) played his son and title character in Danny, Champion of the World and Max (pictured right) appeared in Being Julia. He is currently starring in The Host.

Whether criminal incest, or not, father-son relationships violate–and preclude
marriage in–the standard degree-of-relationship prohibitions present in all
canon and civil law about marriage (of every kind). Irons just doesn’t know
what he is talking about, which probably becomes from being an actor.
