British LGBT indie film ‘Bruno & Earlene Go To Vegas’ readies itself for festivals

Shooting has just wrapped on Bruno & Earlene Go To Vegas, a new LGBT-themed independent British feature shot in the USA and Paris. Directed by Simon Savory, and starring The Voice contestant Ross William Wild and Antony Cherrie, aka electro pop act Johnny Lazer, the film features a score by Australian synth artist Matt Van Schie and includes tracks by Bright Light Bright Light, and Hunter As A Horse on the soundtrack.

When the headstrong Earlene (Ashleigh Sumner) impulsively heads to LA, she finds a distraction in the shape of the mysterious Bruno (Miles Szanto), a wandering intersex teenager she meets at Venice Beach. The two loners become fast friends, but when Earlene becomes embroiled in one of Bruno’s home rental scams, whilst simultaneously discovering just what lengths he will go to to score some cash, she takes the youth under her wing and drives off into the desert. Along the way they meet a sexually confused carjacker, a pair of Scottish ex-strippers (Wild and Cherrie), a tap-dancing drag queen and many more like-minded runaways – who are all looking for a way out in the world.

Savory and his crew shot the film on a micro-budget, slaving hard for three weeks to create what promises to be a fresh, slick queer genre film. From the photos and the teaser trailer below, Bruno & Earlene Go To Vegas looks set to be a bright, engaging and diverse comedy treat, bringing together a band of misfits who will hopefully prove entirely unpredictable. And, yes, we picked the teaser photo because we know exactly what our audience like to see.

Bruno & Earlene Go To Vegas will tour international film festivals this summer, and So So Gay will keep you updated with news of UK screenings and any news of a theatrical release. Watch this space.
