The extra special talent from 2010′s X Factor, Rebecca Ferguson, has been given the club treatment (courtesy of RAW) on her new single, ‘Backtrack’. Her commercially successful album, Heaven, is getting a revamp and this is the first song to be taken from it.
The remix surfaced recently for ‘Backtrack’ and, in our opinion, it’s rather brilliant. Rebecca’s versatile and sublime voice lends itself to anything thrown at it. The original is an upbeat pop track, but the anthem-type dance version takes Ferguson’s vocals to a whole new level. The echoing power of Ferguson’s voice will have you itching for a dancefloor within seconds, as well as chanting along with her: ‘I can’t, go along with it, you can say just what you like, but you still did it…’
The original is piano-driven from the get go, with a jazzy soulful edge, but the club remix replaces all that with a synth heavy, pounding beat that is so club friendly you may as well be downing WKDs whilst listening to it. This tune will hopefully transport Ferguson even nearer to international superstar status.
After seeing Rebecca perform this at the iTunes Festival recently, we can confirm that it is an absolute belter of a tune with the singer sounding at her best. The club remix gives it a fantastic new feel and reveals that her voice would be equally well suited to this genre as well.
As mentioned, the track is from the deluxe edition of Ferguson’s double platinum selling début album, Heaven, and includes ‘Backtrack’ as well as four additional tracks: ‘Good Days, Bad Days’, (fantastic new song), ‘Strange and Beautiful’ (the outstanding Aqualung cover), ‘Take Care’ (Drake cover, recorded live at Liverpool Echo Arena), and ‘I’ll Count The Days’ (as featured on series 3 of ITV’s Downton Abbey).
Backtrack can be pre-ordered from Amazon or iTunes. Heaven (Deluxe Version) is due for release on 15 October.
