2012 is set to be one of the biggest years London has ever had, and few musicians have captured the spirit of the capital this year as naturally as the feisty Elsie has with her new track: ‘London Town’.
The reggae-influenced self-penned track is Elsie’s celebration of all that is special to London and her vocals soar effortlessly through the track, glossing over lyrics like ‘London, the place I hear calling, the rat race I feel small in but I’m ready and I’m running too’; a daily routine most Londoners can relate to!
‘London Town’ is the perfect soundtrack to any summer event and the accompanying interactive music video must be one of the most original concepts in 2012. Viewers guide Elsie on her route to fame, choosing how she should rise to the top – the video pokes fun at celebrity culture in the UK with Elsie doing tongue-in-cheek takes on scripted reality shows and sex tapes as well as attacking Beyoncé and Adele!
It goes to prove that sometimes we don’t need the generic power ballads that seem to accompany every major sporting event. What Elsie has done is write a fresh, funky track that celebrates all that is unique about London, mixing old school genres with a 2012 approach.
‘London Town’ is accompanied by a haunting new take on the Blondie classic ‘Heart of Glass’ and it’s easy to see why pop starlet, Sia, enjoyed it so much that she wrote to Elsie directly to let her know!
Everything about ‘London Town’ including the lyrics, music video and of course Elsie’s voice are conversation starters, the only thing left to happen now is for Elsie’s star to truly take off as it deserves to.
