Advances in technology combined with London being the host city has meant that these Olympics have had significantly higher coverage in the UK than past Olympics. For people with cable and satellite television there has been a choice of 24 channels of sport to choose from and with live action and a ‘catch-up’ facility on the BBC Olympics website, as well as an official app, it really has been possible to ‘Never miss a moment’ of the action. What’s more, you wouldn’t want to when one of the sports at the Olympics is water polo.
Imagine a cross between rugby, football and basketball, mix it all up in a big swimming pool and you have water polo. Fast action, end-to-end plays, lots of goals and the occasional rough and tumble make up the enjoyment and excitement experienced by the spectators. Add to this the players including Matteo Aicardi (Italy), Andreas Miralis (Greece) and Team GB’s Rob Parker and you can see prime examples of the athletic specimens competing.
Keep an eye out too for the replays of the action that often feature underwater shots. These show you the frenzied play and occasional underhand tactics that can lead to the players being somewhat exposed. It will lead you to hover your thumb over the pause and rewind buttons on your Sky+ box. All that’s left to add is thank goodness for high definition.
