Review: Discovery Expedition, new lifestyle clothing range from the Discovery Channel

Venture forth and discover style with a soul in new lifestyle and outdoor apparel brand for men, Discovery Expedition. It’s the new clothing range from the Discovery Channel inspired by real adventure and we got our grubby little digits on some of their knitwear must-haves for any outdoor expedition.

The initial range launches with an Autumn/Winter 2011 men’s capsule collection comprising of approximately 25 items – ranging from jackets, sweatshirts, knitwear and t-shirts through to shirts and denim trousers in a variety of bold and seasonal colours. Stylish, long-lasting and built for purpose, Discovery Expedition products combine innovative technology with Italian design excellence, creating a perfect balance between aesthetics and practicality.

One of the must-have items for any outdoor expedition is without a doubt the wooly jumper. Featuring crewnecks, turtlenecks and polo-necks, the knitwear collection combines the very best in terms of quality and fit. Cue woolly winter wardrobe must-have number one: The night blue Norwegian jacket in two-sided jacquard wool with a soft white faux fur lining, complete with a classic geometric design inspired by traditional Norwegian knitwear.  Despite fitting a little snug, the aesthetically pleasing sweater does well to combine an on-trend design with a real weighty core for comfort and maximum practicality. If you’re looking for something with style and substance this is a good choice and although £115 may be a little pricey, it’s certainly good quality. You can see this sweater modelled by an ever so handsome chap over at DX’s new ‘Try This At Home’ campaign where you can also upload and get involved too.

Expedition essential number two: The night blue crewneck cottage jumper. Ideally DX recommend wearing this sweater in a cosy chalet with a roaring log fire, surrounded by fluffy white snow, but if plans for your dream snowy getaway don’t materialise, this Discovery Expedition must-have would be perfect paired with a Grandad collar tonal check shirt, throw in some stone washed denim and sling on those earmuffs and have yourself a gay ol’ time, when we do eventually get some snow that is. This one’s not too heavy on the credit card either at around £65 but again it’s clear Discovery Expedition has crafted a real essential garment for the urban pioneers amongst us.

Given the heritage of The Discovery Channel, it’s no surprise that they pride themselves on  great sustainable values with each item designed and manufactured to fit this forward thinking eco ideology without compromising on quality. This means using natural and recycled materials, and every detail is carefully applied ensuring DX products are long-lasting and strong.  It’s clear that each element of the A/W collection is unique for its story, quality and function, bringing together 25 brave key pieces in a collection we here at So So Gay are very excited about.
