Last week, So So Gay brought you an exclusive download from rising Swedish singer Andreas Moe. You seemed to like it. And him. A lot. So we thought it would be a good idea to get to know Andreas a little better. Here’s what he had to say when we chatted to him.
So So Gay: Hey Andreas. How are you today?
Andreas Moe: I’m good thank you! A bit tired as I was out last night with friends and probably had one too many beers!
So So Gay recently featured your track ‘Volcanoes’. What’s the inspiration behind the song?
Well, it’s basically about the fire and intensity between two lovers. I was thinking that every artist has songs about love, joy, pain, hope and so on, but no album, EP or set list is complete without a good sex song! So ‘Volcanoes’ is my sex song (laughs).
So what can listeners expect from your debut EP?
I think they can expect a different sound from what I’ve released so far as a featured artist with Avicii and John de Sohn. The sound on my solo project is more ‘electronic singer-songwriter’, but I also think it’s virtually impossible not to be touched by the lyrics of the songs. There really is something in there that everyone can relate to. Other than that, they can expect some great tunes that I hope they will love!
Who are your personal musical influences?
At the moment I’m listening Prince and Bon Iver a lot. They just inspire me so much, and on so many levels. I’ve been a huge John Mayer fan for years but got a bit tired of it, as you do after listening to anything too much – although just last week I listened through his new album Born and Raised and felt like my 17 year-old self again. It’s absolutely amazing!
Are you planning on touring in the UK any time soon?
I don’t have any tour dates just yet, but we’re looking to tour later this year! Meanwhile, I have a select few dates coming up in London which you can find out more about on my Facebook page. I’m playing the Iluvlive gig at XOYO in East London on 16 July – you should come!
How do you feel about Sweden winning Eurovision recently? Would you take part yourself?
I think it’s amazing! Such a great song and performance! I worked with Loreen a few years ago so I know first hand how talented she is. I wasn’t surprised at all that she won. Hopefully the song will finally replace ‘Waterloo’ as the worlds most famous Swedish karaoke song! (laughs) But really, Eurovision is a really good platform to break new artists, but at the moment I feel it’s not for me.
Any messages for those who downloaded ‘Volcanoes’?
Thank you, I really hope you like it – and remember that it’s a sex song!
