Queen of the charts and owner of the pertest bum in pop, Nicki Minaj has never shied away from creating controversy, but now reports sugest that maybe she’s not as wild as the songstress would like us to believe.
When Minaj first burst onto our radios, the question of her sexuality was a much debated topic and finally after an interview with Details Magazine, she set the record straight. When asked whether, as an openly bisexual rapper, she thought hip hop was becoming more ‘gay friendly’, Minaj responded, ‘I think the world is getting more gay-friendly, so hip-hop is too. But it’s harder to imagine an openly gay male rapper being embraced. People view gay men as having no street credibility. But I think we’ll see one in my lifetime.’
Now however, Minaj admits to only fuelling the rumours surrounding her sexuality, which many see as a deliberate attempt to gain more attention. Being bisexual has often been seen as ‘trendy’ for popstars, and a way to reach out to a wider audience through their music.

Minaj hasn’t been out of the headlines since she released her first album, Pink Friday, in 2010.
In an interview with Complex Magazine back in 2010, the ‘Starships’ singer told them, ‘When I rap, it’s just an extension of how I speak, and that’s how I talk. If you don’t like it, don’t listen. I’m also not going to explain something just because I said it in a rap. Take what you want from it. [In the press] I didn’t say [I don't like women]. I said I don’t have sex with women. I don’t have sex with men right now either. If [bisexual is] what they wanna call me, then fine.’
In her lyrics, Minaj frequently raps about woman sexually, and often sings about being attracted to girls.
During a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the reporter says, ‘Early in her career Minaj claimed to be bisexual, but now says she just did that to get attention. ‘I think girls are sexy’, she says. ‘But I’m not going to lie and say that I date girls.”
Well, whatever her sexuality, Nicki Minaj remains firmly in the public image, especially as she recently drew outrage and even received death threats by endorsing American Mitt Romney for President and labeling herself as a Republican in a recent song.
As Gossip Girl would say, ‘You’re nobody unless you’re talked about’.
