Multi-platinum pop singer, Mika, releases the music video for his latest single
Today sees multi-platinum pop singer, Mika, unveil the music video for ‘Celebrate’. The track, which features a guest appearance by Pharrell Williams, is the lead single from his forthcoming album, The Origin Of Love, and will be released on 30 September.
The video sees the singer, who recently confirmed he is gay, stomping around a fairly dishevelled looking apartment, while seemingly struggling to write lyrics. These shots are interspersed with a handful of scenes covering celebration-themed stories played out by extras, including a marriage proposal, a birthday and a small group fondly remembering the life of a recently departed friend. As the video closes, we see Mika dancing about in a nameless club while chanting the repetitive chorus line, ‘I want the whole world to celebrate’.
Mika has said the following about the background to the song:
‘This single is what happens when you combine a 22-year-old you find online, Fryars, with an extra-planetary Nick Littlemore and Pharrell Williams! Written by me, Pharrell and Fryars and produced by Nick, this kind of collaboration is only possible when everyone throws themselves into it wanting to have fun and without any ego. This collective and open attitude was at the heart of The Origin Of Love. It’s an album about crazy love songs and tolerance. It was recorded in Miami and London but mostly in Fryars’ north London bedroom studio!’
The track is an upbeat affair and will no doubt go down well with existing fans of the singer. What are your thoughts? Let us know below or tweet us @SoSoGay or @SoSoGay_Music.
