Sir Elton John has once again lashed out at Madonna, this time highlighting her apparent mistreatment of Lady Gaga, while likening the Queen of Pop to a fairground stripper.
Madonna recently paid a rather backhanded compliment to her heir apparent, chiming in on the controversy surrounding the alleged similarity between Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ and her own hit, ‘Express Yourself’. She said, ‘I thought, ‘What a wonderful way to redo my song’. I mean, I recognised the chord changes. I thought it was… interesting’. The Elton John-Madonna feud is one of those infamous, long-standing situations that shows no sign of abating. With Gaga being godmother to Zachery, the son John had via a surrogate with his partner David Furnish, it is unsurprising that John has jumped to her defence. Indeed, John has previously described Gaga’s monster hit, ‘Born This Way’ as ‘the new gay anthem’.
Elton John is as much known for his temper tantrums as he is his music. It was while being interviewed on Australian news and current affairs programme, Sunday Night that the former star of Tantrums and Tiaras went on to say, with no apparent irony, ‘Why is she such a nightmare? Sorry, her career is over. Her tour has been a disaster and it couldn’t happen to a bigger c*nt.’
Bizarrely, the Rocket Man singer was not entirely critical, suggesting at one point that Madonna ought to have stayed with her ‘Ray of Light’ era sound rather than trying to emulate younger stars such as Gaga, Rihanna and Katy Perry: ‘[She should have] stayed away from the dance stuff and just been a great pop singer and make great pop records, which she does brilliantly.’ However, the positive comments were short-lived as John then continued, ‘But no, she had to go and prove… she looks like a f*cking fairground stripper. She’s been horrible to Gaga.’
For all the positive effects fatherhood has undoubtedly brought to Sir Elton John’s life, diminishing his forked tongue is clearly not one of them. Still, it makes for rather entertaining viewing for the rest of us.
