Exclusive Premiere: Bright Light Bright Light – Feel It

Emerging electro pop sensation, Bright Light Bright Light, is back with new single, Feel It, and So So Gay has the exclusive honour of premiering its video.

With comparisons to electro pop supremo, Robyn, Bright Light Bright Light released one of 2012′s most compelling début albums, Make Me Believe In Hope, and is a Welsh Music Prize nominee. Rod Thomas, the man behind BLBL, has remixed the likes of Kelis and Gotye, supported Ellie Goulding and Erasure, and releases his latest single, ‘Feel It’, on 29 October. We here at So So Gay have the pleasure and the privilege of premiering the video for this single below.

‘I wanted to do something with more club euphoria,’ says Bright Light Bright Light with regard to his forthcoming single, ‘Feel It’. ‘I’d heard Mykal Kilgore singing on a track Del (Marquis, of Scissor Sisters) had played me, so I wrote some diva vocal lines and Mykal stepped in and added 3000% of fierce to the mix’. The track is about giving in to dark desires, and boasts tribal techno beats, with Kilgore’s vocal inspired by the cult TV show, Twin Peaks, of which Rod is an obsessive fan of the series, as is the song’s co-writer, Jon Shave. Explaining the musical inspiration behind the track, Rod goes on to say, ‘C+C, Technotronic, the darker sides of Behaviour by Pet Shop Boys and Funky Green Dogs’ ‘Fired Up’ were the kind of energies we wanted to channel with the track.’

These influences all come across quite noticeably, both in the sound but also in the visual. The accompanying video is evocative of music videos from the same late 80s/early 90s period, with the implementation of bright, block colours while dancer silhouettes prance about in front of them. The video also features a brief appearance by his main musical collaborator, Del Marquis, as well as guest vocalist, Mykal Kilgore.

‘Feel It’ will be released as a four-track EP at the end of October. This will comprise a single and 12″ version of the single, a remix by Vinny Vero & Steve Migliore, and a bonus track called ‘Good Times’. The fifteen-date tour to promote the single takes in dates with alt-rock band Clock Opera, along with three headlining shows – which includes London’s Cargo on Rod’s birthday. Further venue and date details can be found after the video.

Feel It will be released on 29 October 2012. The début album, Make Me Believe In Hope, is available from Amazon and iTunes now.
