Jon Hornbuckle caught up with the fabulous Stooshe girls recently to get the lowdown on their next single, touring with Nicki Minaj and their festival survival tips!
Karis, Courtney and Alex have already had a huge year and things look set to get even bigger. ‘Love Me’ hit the Top 5 in March and their latest track ‘Black Heart’ is still riding high in the charts six weeks since its release. Their debut album is set for release later on in the year and they’ve just finished a hugely successful support slot on Nicki Minaj’s recent UK tour.
So So Gay: What was it like supporting Nicki Minaj on her UK tour?
Courtney: It was so incredible! We didn’t really get the chance to hang out with her but she did come and say ‘hello’ and thanked us for joining her. We got a few pictures too.
Karis: It was so overwhelming because Nicki actually handpicked us for the tour so she was saying that she loved our style and our music so it was really lovely.
Alex: We love Nicki so much, we are big fans.
If you each had to pick a different girl band to be a member of, which would you choose?
Karis: Spice Girls
Alex: Sugababes
Courtney: TLC
How does it feel that ‘Black Heart’ is still in the Top 5 so long after its release?
Karis: It’s amazing, we’re so lucky! It’s Top 10 in Ireland too!

What can we expect from the next single?
Karis: We have a video shoot in a few weeks but we haven’t actually decided what the third single will be yet. It was going to be one, but we have just recorded another track for the album and we really want to make that track the next single so we will have to see.
What’s your fashion tip for this summer?
Alex: Our summer fashion tip for anybody would be to have fun, not to take yourself too seriously. It’s not about limiting yourself to wearing dresses and wearing whatever you want.
What’s the biggest misconception about Stooshe?
Courtney: The biggest misconception about Stooshe is that we are unapproachable; we are actually very nice and we love talking to people. Maybe people are scared, it’s not just the girls, it’s the guys too. It’s because we are three girls with big style that aren’t afraid to say what we think and we are obviously very, very close so maybe people misinterpret that.
What’s the plan for Stooshe this summer?
Alex: We have a lot of festivals coming up over the summer too. We all need our wellies, and whenever we finish performing at a festival we put our Ray Bans on and get stuck in with the crowd.
Who would you love to collaborate with next?
Courtney: We would love to collaborate with Labrinth. Actually, we would love to work with anyone, even Susan Boyle, maybe we could do a crazy ballad with her. We could have Stooshe, Susan Boyle and Adele and we would probably outfunk them and be jumping around – we would even get SuBo to jump around.
