25 Years of Kylie Minogue Jon Hornbuckle 27 Feb 2012 Music 2012 isn’t only the year the world supposedly ends, but it’s also the year that pop royalty, Kylie Minogue, celebrates her 25th year in the music industry. For many, this is equally as important as armageddon, and for some of us, just as terrifying – Kylie has been bashing out the hits longer than many of us at So So Gay have had a heartbeat! Kylie’s first track, 1987’s ‘Locomotion’ still fills dance-floors across the nation to this day and just watching Kylie’s music videos shows you almost every fashion trend in the past 25 years, several of which we have Miss Minogue to thank for… or to blame. What is it about Kylie that has kept her going strong in a business where many struggle to make it to 5 years, let alone 25? Even those of us who are just casual fans of the Australian singer can recognise that whilst certain other pop queens desperately try to ‘re-invent’ themselves, Kylie always seems to evolve, each new era being a growth as opposed to being a plot to gain new audiences. By means of celebrating a quarter of a century in the music industry, Kylie has released a series of videos recorded at Abbey Road Studios, all of which showcase one of the hits in her impressive back-catalogue recorded live with an orchestra. The videos really do demonstrate Kylie’s vocal ability and the diversity of the music she produces. She’s overcome more than most of her peers, but she continues to be at the top of her game. Long live Kylie and here’s to the next 25 years! You can see a video montage of Kylie’s 25 years’ worth of hits here.
