Stu Henshall helps you look after your lips this winter

At SoSoGay we pride ourselves on having lovely lips. They’re used to speak, eat, kiss and pout when in a mood. As they’re on your face for the world to see they aren’t something you can easily hide when they are looking dry, cracked or bitten. With the cold winter months approaching now it is more important than ever to take extra care. Take special care by drinking an extra pint of water a day, not eating too much salt and ensuring you moisturize your smackers every few hours. The walk to work between the bus and the office, or spending hours on end in an artificially heated room can play havoc and leave you with a sore dry pout. Since lips contain no sebaceous glands they are more prone to drying out than the rest of the body. Additionally, lips also contain very little melanin and as such do not have much natural protection from the sun, meaning an SPF is necessary even in the winter.

We have taken a look at what products are out on the market to give you a helping hand and ensure you are the one getting a kiss under mistletoe this Xmas.

Lypsyl

Lypsyl

Budget: First up is the standard Lypsyl (£1.49 – Boots).
This new delicious fresh fruit flavoured range will leave you salivating. Featuring SPF 15, as well as Aloe Vera and Vitamin E the Lypsyl range gives your lips that much needed moisture and protection. Pocket one of these and you’ll keep lips soft, smooth and hydrated for when you need to pucker up.

Fushi

Fushi

Treat: If you feel like you lips need a bit of an extra care this winter, then Fushi’s organic hydrating lip balm is the one for you (£5.05 – Fushi). It’s a refreshing minty balm which nourishes the lips and softens chapped areas. It contains Avocado oil which is one of the most moisture-rich oils you can get –  a rich and deep penetrating oil, containing vitamins A, D and E and potassium. It feels a little bit tingly when you first apply it and is great if you want to spend that little bit extra on a lip treatment.

Comvita

Comvita

Blow out: If you want to have a blow out on lip balm then Comvita’s Nourishing Lip Treatment with Manuka Honey is a great option (£10 – Comvita). This one feels really smooth and nourishing as soon as you apply it. The Manuka Honey has the ability to absorb and retain moisture, which supports the natural collagen and elastin structure of your skin. The macadamia and kiwi fruit seed oils help to soften and plump up your lips and if you’re feeling like you have a few lines around your mouth the treatment is also good for helping to keep those at bay.

If you intend on having a couple of kisses at the office party this year and want your lips to be snogably soft, or if you just want to give your lips a little bit more love then there are many options. Always remember when it comes to beauty, prevention is better than cure, there is a lip balm for every budget so invest in something before the onset of dry cracked lips.
