This morning, after a night of boozing and schmoozing at fellow writer Andy’s flat (Andy had, sensibly, not signed up to participate), myself and four fellow SSG contributors crawled out of our beds and headed through the rain to Regents Park to participate in the Anthony Nolan Trust Royal Romp, a 5k ‘fun’ run around the park.
Despite doubts – when I was woken up for the third time by my cat at 5am I was convinced I was never going to be able to get up in time for the run; the other team members were merrily posting on Twitter at 3am that they were ‘heading home to get some rest before the run’ – we all made it there (just) on time to register and line up for the 10am start.
Considering none of us had done any training and our average ‘health age’ was probably somewhere in the early 40s, I think we did really well. Gerard came in first at just over 21 minutes; Caspar, Matt and Scott came in a little after that at around 25 minutes, followed by Alasdair at a smidge over 30 minutes.
Best news though, was we reached our fundraising target, with more to come in! We agreed between the six team members to aim for £50 each, £300 in total and it’s fantastic to see our justgiving page shows we’ve reached it. If you’d like to contribute a little more, please do.
