Reykjavik’s mayor appears in drag to launch Pride event

Jon GnarrJon Gnarr, leader of the satirical Icelandic political party, Best Party, opened Reykjavik’s gay pride celebrations appearing on stage in drag.

Gnarr was a top comedian in Iceland before becoming major of the Icelandic capital just two months ago. He told the crowd “the mayor unfortunately could not attend himself. This is what happens when the people elect a clown.”

Iceland was the first country with an openly gay head of government, Johanna Sigurdardottir.
