Pardon for Malawi gay couple Caspar Aremi 31 May 2010 Current events President Bingu wa Mutharika of Malawi has gone against public opinion and pardoned Steven Monjeza and Tiwonge Chimbalanga following a visit from Secretary-General of the UN, Ban Ki-moon. The pair had been given 14-year jail terms for “gross indecency and unnatural acts” after announcing their engagement.
