The New York Times has recently teamed up with acclaimed photographer Solve Sundsbo and Canadian composer Owen Pallett to create fourteen stunning short films; each one a close study of one actor conveying some of the classic attitudes of cinema. While the concept of the project, featuring stars like Natalie Portman and Michael Douglas (above), may be to show us just how important good acting is by removing colour and speech, it also highlights the importance of music in film. Pallett’s haunting score conveys just as much, if not more emotion than the actions of each film’s subject.
The gallery can be viewed here, complimented by a slideshow of the strongest images from each film.
